Best Interactive Cultural Digital Signage

Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden – The Dallas Arboretum

Reflect, the turnkey solutions provider for digital out-of-home customer experiences, today announced that they, along with The Old State, a Dallas-based interactive app and website design agency, have been awarded top honors by The Digital Screenmedia Association (DSA), winning the 2014 Award of Excellence for Best Interactive Cultural Digital Signage for their deployment at the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden at The Dallas Arboretum.

The Dallas Arboretum is using digital engagement to educate children of all ages about nature and science.  The recently opened Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden boasts an expansive eight acres of themed learning galleries and will draw close to 1 million visitors annually.  The Children’s Adventure Garden includes over 120 interactive digital displays and exhibits, running more than 600 educational games in 17 learning galleries.

The digital experience starts upon entry with an interactive Directory Kiosk. The garden features a 500-linear-foot trail, an adventure bridge, a 30 foot tree snag, a canopy walk, a 9,100 square-foot indoor Exploration Center and more. Children can play Crime Scene Investigator to solve plant mysteries and interact with displays and exhibits to learn about the interconnections between people, plants and animals.  Children can also visit the Globe Theater, an interactive digital globe that shows near real-time weather, global ecosystems, and atmospheric changes of the solar system.  While exploring the garden, animated characters appear to teach children about life in their unique habitats. Kids can catch a nature play in the puppet theater and live science demonstrations are continuously taking place throughout the 17 learning galleries in the garden.

The Arboretum wanted to steer away from using traditional plastic, static signs in the newly renovated park.  Given the huge percentage of children using mobile devices in their daily lives, advisors and senior leadership at the Arboretum felt that their young audience would have more reaction and engagement to digital screens.  One of the principal goals of the interactive screens is to tie educational content and games into specific areas of the park and make those experiences relevant to the plants, rocks, or wildlife present near the screens. The Arboretum retained education experts who also created curriculum, lessons, and content ideas for games that went in each area.  In this way, no set of screens is showing exactly the same content but there is a consistent user experience across all the screens.

“WOW, what a great use of technology to immerse kids in the learning experience.  Not only does this technology provide a fun way to learn, I bet most of the kids don't even realize they are learning, but it provides a simple way to change out content. ” DSA Award of Excellence Judge

To achieve these results, the Arboretum implemented one reliable solution that could be used to control, manage, schedule, and update content and applications for all of the 120 interactive outdoor touch screens.

“Our teams rallied together to bring this project to life. It was definitely a challenge having to work with the many environment and technological variables involved with such a large-scale installation.  We are all excited to receive this award,” said Ron Leon Guerrero, Director of Technology, The Old State.

The Old State Agency was responsible for interactive game design, outdoor hardware selection and the Content Management System (CMS) front end for the deployment. Governor™ CMS, which The Old State created for use with their clients' websites, was modified to act as a drag-and-drop creative front end and CMS for the Arboretum creative staff.  The Old State created over 980 interactive learning games and applications that brought specific areas of the park to life for children and adults.

"We all worked tirelessly to produce this very unique and integrated Children's Garden installation. This install posed challenges on many fronts, and we are all so pleased with the results,” said Travis McElroy, Managing Partner/Creative Director, The Old State.

The Old State & Reflect Systems developed a seamless interface between the Governor CMS and the ReflectView™ digital media platform. The teams provided the ability for The Old State to display the interactive games for all of the touch screens and video walls by using the ReflectView Software Suite as the central control, distribution and management system.  The project required extensive support from both Reflect and The Old State field personnel to install, test, and enable the outdoor touchscreens and displays.

“I couldn’t be more pleased to receive recognition for the truly amazing interactive experience created at The Dallas Arboretum.  Working with The Old State to use our technology in such a unique and innovative way, to teach children about science and nature, has been very rewarding and a project we are all very proud of,” said Bill Warren, CEO, Reflect.

The result is an extremely satisfying blend of entertainment and education that will be enjoyed by millions of children for years to come.  Teachers bringing groups of students into the Arboretum can augment their lessons and visit with content and games that tie directly to their learning plans and scope.  Currently one of the largest interactive outdoor display deployments in the U.S., the Arboretum has experienced record crowds and the interaction between children and the interactive displays has been amazing.

Local Non-Profit Organization Helping Children with Developmental Differences

Reflect is committed to giving back to the community.  We recently had the opportunity to volunteer at The Warren Center’s Spring Fling.  Reflect was on hand in both locations, Richardson and Garland, to help the kids with various arts and crafts.  The Spring Fling Family Fun Day provides an opportunity for the kids to interact with each other and for their families to network for support.

Reflect has provided monetary support and volunteer services to help ensure The Warren Center’s children and families receive the resources and support needed to achieve their potential for many years.  The Warren Center, founded in 1968, believes that every child deserves wings. Children born with disabilities or developmental differences need special care to spread their wings and reach their potential. Success is found when a child receives early treatment and a family is able to provide a loving and supportive environment for their child to grow, be accepted, and become a valued member of the community.

The Warren Center specializes in early childhood intervention services for infants, toddlers, young children and their families.  Currently, The Warren Center offers several programs focused on the special needs of children.  The Warren Center ECI serves children from birth to three years of age and provides in-home therapy services for children with developmental delays and disabilities.  The Warren Center also offers Clinic Based Services for children three to five years of age.  In addition to the services offered to children, The Warren Center has Family Education and Support, which offers professionally-led parent support groups, training sessions for parents, and most importantly, a listening ear to help families filter information, find and access resources, and become advocates for their child(ren) with special needs.  The Warren Center currently services over 540 children in Early Childhood Intervention alone and about 1400 families across all programs each year.

For the seventh year in a row, Reflect is an official event sponsor for The Warren Center’s annual fundraising event, Fantasy Football Draft Night.  Held in September at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the event will feature renowned broadcast journalist Scott Murray as Master of Ceremonies and special guest, retired Dallas Cowboy, Randy White. Click Here for more information about this event.

In addition to providing annual contributions and volunteer services, Reflect organized the “Team Reflect Cycling Club”, a casual team of cyclists riding for health, friendship, and to raise awareness for The Warren Center.  Team Reflect participates in a variety of rally rides across the state of Texas annually, using their time on the road to raise awareness for The Warren Center and the amazing things they are doing for children with developmental disabilities.  “It has been so gratifying to get connected with The Warren Center and getting to know the great people there”, said Matt Schmitt, President & Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer of Reflect. “Getting the chance to see how much their efforts mean to the kids and families they serve is special, and we want to tell everyone we can about the program and look forward to helping as champions for them.”

Reflect Wayfinder in action

Reflect, the premier turnkey digital media solutions provider for out-of-home customer experiences, today announced the release of Reflect WayFinder.  The advanced digital wayfinding application is improving guest experiences for brands nationwide.  Reflect WayFinder was featured in the New Product Showcase at the Digital Signage Expo last week in Las Vegas.

Reflect helps brands power their communications with digital media solutions and immersive guest experiences, engaging their customers throughout their journey visiting a brand’s location.  Introduced to the market in 2005, ReflectView™ is employed by some of the most well-known brands in the world including Best Buy, GameStop, Levi’s, Target, and Verizon Wireless. Large-scale digital media networks powered by Reflect are managing more than 300,000 screens across the United States and Canada.

Reflect understands that consumer-facing companies must find new ways to extend the positive customer experience across the multiple channels of the customer journey — including mobile, social media, broadcast, and brick-and-mortar — while maintaining a consistent brand message and approach. With Reflect Wayfinder, consumer-facing companies are engaging and guiding customers when it counts the most, on location, while providing a connected, seamless omnichannel experience.

“Reflect WayFinder uses state of the art technologies and builds on our proven ReflectView digital media platform. Together, this lets us deliver adaptive, dynamic location information together with traditional media content in a way that is seamless for our partners.”

Bart Massey, Chief Operating Officer for Reflect

Reflect WayFinder was developed to provide clients with a turnkey, customizable digital mapping solution.  Reflect has the ability to design and create the right wayfinding experience, tailored to the needs of any brand.   Reflect will work with clients to determine the right type of product to fit their objectives, and then construct the appropriate applications and content to deliver a solution using our industry-leading ReflectView digital media platform. Reflect solutions are custom designed, but with scalability, expandability, and reliability in mind.

Reflect WayFinder | Passive
For easy, quick mapping needs, Reflect will work with clients to create a user-friendly digital map of their space that can be directly displayed on non-interactive media players. The power of the ReflectView platform allows the digital map to be displayed when and where the client wants it, and also allows it to be intermixed with other content as desired. This solution is ideal for less complex facilities and areas where user interaction with a map is not needed. This is also a great way to start a wayfinding program with only a small investment in custom content.

Reflect WayFinder | Interactive
For more sophisticated scenarios where user specific interactions are needed, Reflect can construct custom map applications that allow users to interact with the digital display to perform actions like zooming in on a map, searching for store or department names, or showing routes from the user’s location to their desired destination. Interactivity greatly enhances the user experience, and Reflect puts experienced software design and UX experts to work to help design an experience that is tailored to the client’s customers.

Reflect WayFinder | Custom
Advanced, highly sophisticated experiences are not a problem.. Reflect can integrate mapping applications with digital media (videos, images, etc.) from the ReflectView system, and also from customized data sources that are unique to the client. Any type of data that is available for consumption can be connected to a Reflect map application to create truly unique and immersive guest experiences. The Reflect team will work with client resources to analyze data, provide the client with supplementary content such as social media and other engaging digital media, and design an experience that is elegant, functional, and provides users with a great experience.

More than simply a strategy for nurturing customer relationships, a positive customer experience can help shape a brand’s story, generating sales lift and deepening brand connections. To create a compelling experience, brands need the right tools to manage the digital touch points and messaging customers engage with from the moment they first interact with the brand, to the second they walk on location, until they finalize the purchase, and beyond. By controlling the right digital experiences from the moment customers walk through the door, businesses gain a competitive edge.

Reflect Named 2015 Installer of the Year

DSA Winner 2015 graphic

Winner of International DOOHDAH Award for Overall Achievement

We are proud to announce that Reflect was just named 2015 Installer of the Year, winning the International DOOHDAH Award for Overall Achievement for our deployment at Cedar Fair!

Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, one of the largest amusement-resort operators in the world, is using experiential digital media across their 11 parks to thrill and engage park guests of all ages. The recently debuted digital platform, Fun TV, spans across the US and Canada, and reaches more than 23 million guests annually.

“We couldn't be more proud to be named 2015 Installer of the Year.  Cedar Fair challenged us with completing their digital media implementation prior to each park opening for the 2014-2015 season. With up to 50 screens in each of the 11 parks, this was definitely a challenge the team was excited to tackle. Weather and time failed to cooperate with our deployment schedule, but our solution delivery team and supporting partners were able to shine through, ensuring we provided the guest experiences Cedar Fair desired on the first day of the season for each park. It was an exciting accomplishment for Cedar Fair's guests and Reflect's team alike,” said Reflect’s Senior Vice President of Solution Delivery and Client Services, Arnie Rivera.

Cedar Fair has always had a focus on top-notch customer service and guest experiences.  With the popularity of their parks and the addition of some highly anticipated new attractions, they needed a way to entertain their guests and provide them with helpful information about park events and promotions.  Cedar Fair also wanted a way to help manage the flow of traffic at entrance gates, in line queues and in restaurants to further improve the overall guest experience. And they wanted to do all this before the opening of the 2014 season.

Due to the aggressive installation schedule, a mere 8 weeks before the parks were opening, Cedar Fair needed a turnkey solution for design, deployment, distribution, content management and ongoing maintenance.  They turned to Reflect.

The ReflectView enterprise digital media software suite provides Cedar Fair control over the management, distribution and presentation of HD media content and applications.  ReflectView provides Cedar Fair with a flexible platform to display dynamic messaging and media that effectively communicate the latest promotions and park attractions, and it supports the integration and management of open standards for content, apps, and web technologies.

Reflect Systems Premier Mounts and Knotts Cedar Fair

Cedar Fair amusement parks provide an ideal environment for experiential digital brand media.  With 314 screens in 11 amusement parks, including Cedar Point, Knott’s Berry Farm, Kings Island and Canada’s Wonderland, the digital experiences start immediately when guests arrive. Entry gate digital signage is being utilized to help direct the flow of traffic.  For entry gate screens, Reflect developed a custom software application to dynamically control lane status for guest entry, indicating which lanes are open or closed.  The application also provides custom content and messaging capabilities to designate lanes reserved for groups and VIPs, and can also be used to promote special events.

Reflect Systems Entrance Screens

Digital media engagement continues throughout the parks with screens strategically placed in ride queues and restaurants aimed to entertain guests while they wait.  Multiple screens throughout the parks provide guests with entertainment and information.  Reflect developed dynamic content, including a custom weather package to inform guests when to expect the hottest or coldest hours of the day, or inclement weather, allowing them to plan their day accordingly.

Reflect Systems Weather App

Reflect also developed a custom wayfinding app for Cedar Fair, including dynamic content and social media integration, that is greatly improving guest experiences. The application allows guests to plot their amusement park routes, get information about park attractions, see live social media feeds, and get wait and walk times to park attractions.

Reflect Systems Wayfinder

“We wanted a platform to activate and manage digital experiences to delight and serve our customers. FunTV, powered by Reflect, provides this along with a great avenue for advertisers to reach an in-demand audience, delivering more than one billion impressions to teens, adults and families with young children in an ideal environment,” said Cedar Fair Entertainment Company’s Chief Operating Officer, Richard Zimmerman.

The digital screens located throughout the parks broadcast FunTV, a Cedar Fair in-house production. FunTV was created to entertain and educate thrill seeking guests on park attractions and upcoming promotions, with music, games, park trivia, and videos.

Reflect Systems Fun TV

With up to 50 screens per park, teams worked at breakneck speed to ensure the project was completed before the start of the 2014 season.  Impressively, the total project was deployed across all 11 parks in 8 weeks.  The recently debuted digital platform will reach more than 23 million guests annually. Cedar Fair’s constant pursuit to boost the overall guest experience has led to its world renowned success and solidifies their reputation of delivering world-class fun and entertainment.

Spence Diamonds Delivers New In-Store Experience With Place-Based Digital Powered by Reflect

Reflect, the premier place-based digital media solutions provider for brand experiences, today announced that Spence Diamonds, a retailer of diamond jewelry, has chosen Reflect as its place-based digital media partner.

Spence Diamonds, founded in Vancouver in 1978, passionately believes there is a way to create beautiful, high-quality diamond jewelry. They harness the power of innovation and technology to deliver Artisan Diamonds to consumers. Their diamonds are lab-created raw diamonds, identical to mined alternatives in every way except where they come from. When planning their expansion into the US market, the progressive thinking that defines Spence Diamonds didn’t stop with the way their diamonds are made. Spence wanted to provide an entirely new in-store experience around buying a diamond, an experience that creatively gives customers all the information they could want, as well as the ability to explore their options in total freedom.

Spence needed to create a store that mirrored the technological innovations of their diamonds and told their story of social responsibility, quality, craftsmanship, and creation. After consulting with their store design firm, JGA, Spence turned to Reflect to provide digital strategy and design for their new locations in the United States.

Spence Diamond Interior

“With our goal to transform the diamond industry, we needed a partner who could help us realize that vision by working hand in hand to create a ground breaking and unique in store experience. Reflect had the knowledge and know how to help us bring this vision to life,” said Eric Lindberg, CEO, Spence Diamonds.

To harness the power of place-based digital media, Reflect, JGA and Spence designed multiple digital experiences for the new stores. The unique use of digital displays paired with custom audio zones and experiential HD media content allowed Spence to create a digitally-enabled, one-of-a-kind diamond buying experience that starts right when you arrive at the store.

Front Window Displays– To capture the attention of passersby and create a sense of intrigue, Reflect provided and installed four 46” 4K displays arranged in the shape of a diamond in the front window of the store. This eye-catching configuration conveys Spence Diamonds’ brand identity with captivating 4K content. The displays include ambient light sensors that automatically dim the displays as light levels outside decrease. This video wall experience is powered by a ReflectView Media Player with content created at 4K resolution and distributed to each display as full HD video.

Spence Diamond

Brand Wall– To drive customer engagement and create a WOW experience, Reflect provided and installed a custom brand experience on the back wall of the store. Visible upon entrance, this experience consists of an 85” 4K display with a Plexiglas panel overlay. The Spence logo is etched into the Plexiglas panel and the panel is edge-lit by programmable LED strips. When the LED strips are on, the Spence logo illuminates in the same color as the LED strips. Custom content triggers LED edge lighting presets to coordinate the video content and logo illumination. This experience is driven by a ReflectView Media Player and does a phenomenal job of reinforcing Spence’s brand identity.

Spence Brand Wall

Bridal Wall - To further drive customer engagement, Reflect provided and installed multiple digital displays on the bridal wall. The centerpiece of this experience consists of four 40” 4K displays arranged in the shape of a diamond. To complete the bridal wall system, Reflect also provided and installed two 85” 4K displays, one on either side of the diamond-shaped video wall. The displays on the bridal wall allow Spence to tell their brand story and show how Spence Diamonds fits into peoples’ lifestyles and desires. The experience is energetic and markedly different from what you will see in any other jewelry store, and leads customers to engage, ask to learn more, browse merchandise and connect with a sales associate.

Spence BridalWall

One-On-One Consultation Rooms– To assist sales associates with educating shoppers and showcasing relevant merchandise, Reflect provided and installed four 40” displays, one in each consultation room. These displays run an attract loop to educate and entertain customers. Sales associates have the ability to take control of what appears on the screen by connecting a sales tablet to the secondary HDMI input. Once the associate connects the tablet, the content from the tablet appears on the screen. The sales associate can show specific product information to the customer and show relevant video content to assist in the sales process. Once the sales associate finishes their presentation and unplugs their tablet, the display automatically switches back to the dedicated media player content. These screens have proven successful at assisting associates, educating shoppers and driving sales conversion.

Lounge Display– To help create a comfortable, casual, and pleasantly unexpected customer experience, the new Spence Diamonds stores contain a lounge area equipped with comfortable chairs and a bar for mixing hand-crafted cocktails. The lounge is equipped with a 55” display and offers a place for shoppers to relax, have a drink, and continue learning about what makes Spence Diamonds special, including information on Artisan diamonds and how they are made. With content focused on “edutainment” this display helps reduce perceived wait times and educates customers.

Spence Lounge Display

Spence focused on enhancing the shopper experience with digital technologies throughout the entire in-store customer journey to communicate social responsibility, heritage and values, promotions, and lifestyle branding relevant to the in-store experience. Reflect’s suite of digital media solutions provides Spence Diamonds control over the management, distribution and presentation of HD media content and applications across their entire digital media network. ReflectView was chosen based on scalability, reliability and reputation, and provides Spence with a flexible platform to display dynamic messaging and media that effectively communicate brand identity, and it supports the integration and management of a wide range of content and interactive applications.

“Spence Diamonds offers their guests quality, high-end diamond jewelry and a very unique experience.  With the recent opening of their first US locations and the attention paid to digital technologies that improve the overall in-store experience, we are excited to help shape the customer journey Spence Diamonds provides to their guests,” said Bill Warren, Chairman & CEO of Reflect.

Spence Interior2

The most successful and effective in-store environments require the right technology, supporting a well thought out strategy that includes engaging and relevant marketing, merchandising and lifestyle content. Reflect provided Spence Diamonds with a customized digital strategy and solution design, and managed the project from conception to installation and everything in between. Reflect worked closely with Spence Diamonds and with their store design firm, JGA, to ensure every goal was met and every objective fulfilled. Reflect will continue to work with Spence Diamonds on digital strategy for other locations to continue the work on boosting overall customer experience.
